Brian Jungen

[edit] Brian Jungen was born in 1970 in Fort St. John, British Columbia, and lives and works in Vancouver. By critically reappraising and manipulating familiar consumer goods, with reference to Minimalism, globalization, sports culture and ethnography, Jungen produces startling and insightful works that connect the social and environmental effects of globalized trade in mass-produced objects to the status and power of diversion that these selectively transmit. Since graduating from the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in 1992, Jungen has exhibited internationally, most recently with solo shows at the Museum Villa Stuck (Munich), the Tate Modern (London), the Witte de With (Rotterdam), the New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York) and the Vancouver Art Gallery (Vancouver). Recent group exhibitions include Transmission Gallery (Glasgow), Heard Museum (Phoenix), Stazione Leopolda (Florence), Reykjavik Arts Festival (Reykjavik), and the Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst (Antwerp). Brian Jungen lives and works in Vancouver and is represented by Catriona Jeffries, Vancouver and Casey Kaplan Gallery, New York. 



Brian Jungen est né en 1970 à Fort St. John (Canada) et vit et travaille à Vancouver. En déplaçant et manipulant de manière critique les biens de consommation courants, croisant sa pratique avec des références au Minimalisme, à la globalisation, à la culture du sport et à l'ethnographie, Brian Jungen produit des oeuvres qui connectent les effets sociaux et environnementaux de la globalisation au pouvoir de diversion que ces phénomènes provoquent dans le statut des objets. Après avoir été diplômé du Emily Carr College of Art and Design en 1992, Jungen a exposé son travail au Museum Villa Stuck (Munich), à la Tate Modern (Londres), à Witte de With (Rotterdam), au New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York) et à la Vancouver Art Gallery (Vancouver).
