Ryan Gander
[edit] Ryan Gander (GB) Né en 1976 – vit et travaille à LondresAprès un diplôme en "Art Interactif" à la Manchester Metropolitan University complété par des études menées à la Jan van Eyck Akademie à Maastricht, Ryan Gander participe au programme de résidence de la Rijksakademie à Amsterdam. En mars 2002, il bénéficie d'une première exposition personnelle à la galerie International 3 à Manchester, accompagnée d'une monographie intitulée In a language you don’t understand. En 2003, il publie un livre d'artiste, Appendix, réalise une exposition personnelle au Stedelijk Museum Bureau à Amsterdam, et gagne le prix de Rome de sculpture aux Pays-Bas. En septembre 2004, un livre pour enfant écrit par l'artiste, The Boy Who Always Looked Up, sera publié à l'occasion d'une exposition personnelle au Cornerhouse à Manchester. Sa démarche, caractérisée par une rigueur conceptuelle, une simplicité visuelle et des textes allusifs, consiste à s'emparer d'éléments en apparence disparates (objets, situations, textes…) et de les assembler pour y inscrire ses propres systèmes de narration. Parallèlement à sa production artistique, Ryan Gander est intervenant dans diverses écoles d'art et de design en Europe et écrit régulièrement dans des magazines spécialisés en art et en design. Il est représenté à Londres par la galerie Store et à Amsterdam par la galerie Annet Gelink.Ryan Gander (UK) Born in 1976 - lives and works in LondonRyan Gander gained a degree in Interactive art at MMU in the city of Manchester. After having completed a research residency at the Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht, followed by participating in the artists’ residency program of the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. His first solo exhibition was held in March 2002 at the ‘International 3’ Gallery in Manchester, accompanied by a monograph entitled ‘In a language you don’t understand’. In 2003, Gander published the artists’ book ‘Appendix’, produced a solo exhibition for the ‘Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam’ and won the ‘Prix de Rome’ for sculpture (the national Dutch art prize). In September 2004 a childrens’ storybook ‘The Boy Who Always Looked Up’ written by the artist will be published to accompany a Solo exhibition at the Cornerhouse in Manchester.Characterised by conceptual rigor, visual simplicity and allusive text, the work of Gander assembles seemingly disparate objects, actions and texts to develop his own narrative systems. Alongside his artistic production, he is also a visiting lecturer at a selection of art and design schools within Europe and writes regularly for art and design periodicals. Gander now lives and works in London and is represented by Store Gallery, London and Annet Gelink Gallery, Amsterdam.
